Exhibition gets personal
Moreton Bay Regional Council is lifting the lid on taboo items from across the decades at the It’s Personal exhibition on display at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum.
Mayor Peter Flannery says this historical collection will have visitors intrigued from start to finish.
“Fashions, styles, trends and taboos have all fluctuated rapidly since the beginning of the 20th century – and this exhibition gives you a window through time,” Mayor Flannery says.
“Things like smoking, tattoos and even talking about women’s menstruation have all swung between being socially acceptable to unacceptable at times.
“The exhibition also looks at how underwear has changed over the years as well as things like, make-up, hairstyles, clothing, grooming and all of the above.
Decades of change
“We’ve come a long way as a society and things have generally changed for the better, but it’s certainly interesting to take a glance at how society used to view simple day to day things,” Mayor Flannery says.
“Visitors can interact with the exhibition with the ‘What’s in your handbag?’ activity based on a 1970s Australian Glomesh advertising campaign with soap star Delvene Delaney.
“You can take a photograph of the contents inside your purse or bag and put it on a feature wall, adding to the exhibition display.”
It’s Personal will run until June 6 at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum.
