Update: Extreme fire warning issued, bushfire smoke affecting Caboolture

Update: 7.01pm

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) says there's a bushfire around Caboolture, with smoke affecting Caboolture, Toorbul, Meldale, Ningi and surrounding areas.

They say there's no direct threat to property at this stage, but reduced air quality could cause health issues for some people.

As well, smoke from the fire could reduce visibility and roads may be closed.

QFES advises to avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.

People should stay indoors and close windows and doors and keep respiratory medication close by.

They also say if you have a bushfire survival plan, now's a good time to refer to it.

If you don't, now's a good time to create one. You can do that here.

It's also a good time to sign up to Moreton Bay Regional Council's Moreton Alert - a free SMS, email and voice alert system that delivers severe weather and bushfire warnings, prescribed burn notifications, potential flash flooding notifications and information about planned dam releases.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued an extreme fire weather warning for tomorrow, Wednesday, November 16, covering the Southeast Coast district which includes the Moreton Bay Region.

Strong and gusty dry winds are heading this way due to a strong high moving across the Great Australian Bight extending a ridge through southern Queensland.

The combination of the high and low in the Tasman Sea will direct dry and gusty airflow across the southeast during Wednesday.

Conditions will be sunny, with west to southwesterly winds reaching 25-35km/h mostly in the late morning, slightly lighter in the afternoon. Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 30 degrees.

Residents should monitor local conditions, stay tuned to fire weather warnings and advice, and consult their bushfire survival plan to view their options.
