Four weeks and counting for Vegas

Redcliffe resident Vegas Larfield, who trains at All Star Boxing Academy in Lawnton, says he is "ready" for his first fight of the year.

The 22-year-old has joined the No Limit Boxing promotion at South Bank Piazza, in Brisbane on SaturdayMarch 1.

Larfield, with 11 wins from 12 professional fights, will face China’s GuiMing Li, who has six wins, six losses and a draw.

Both featherweights are 1.67m tall, but Larfield will enter the ring with back-to-back wins, while Li has had successive defeats.

“It’s been pretty hard to get fights at my weight, so anyone in and around the weight makes sense,” Larfield said, on Ace Boxing’s Facebook page.

“They say the name and I’m ready to fight. This is definitely not a fight to be missed.”

It will be Larfield’s third outing in five months. After losing to Albert Nolan in September 2023, he had more than a year without a fight.

First, Jack Tressider was injured before their November 2023 showdown and the following month Larfield’s bout with Liam Pope was cancelled.

Shamal Ram Anuj was then lined-up to face “Lethal” in July 2024, but the show, in New South Wales, was called-off.

Larfield had to wait until last November to return to action, stopping Josh Wright and one month later Luke Martin in rounds one and four respectively.

Recent Australian National Boxing Federation rankings show Larfield at four in the featherweights (57.15kg) and seventh at super featherweight (58.97kg).

Now GuiMing Li awaits on the undercard to Larfield’s All Star Boxing colleague Liam Wilson, who takes on Youssef Dib in a rematch of last year’s blockbuster.
