Funding boost for CCTV network
More CCTV infrastructure is coming to City of Moreton Bay after $1.5 million in Federal Government funding secured.
Announced at the City’s Leaders Forum 2025 by Federal Member for Dickson Ali France, the funding will increase community safety and support crime prevention.
Mayor Peter Flannery said Council had called for additional investment in the City’s CCTV network to enhance safety and deter vandalism.
“City of Moreton Bay has already implemented one of the largest local government CCTV networks in Queensland,” the Mayor said.
“This very welcome announcement will expand our safety network so residents can continue to feel secure in their own home and public spaces.
“City of Moreton Bay’s CCTV network of more than 1800 cameras already helps police and Council’s local laws officers respond faster to criminal and antisocial behaviour.
“I am proud we were the first council to provide Vehicle of Interest alerts to the Queensland Police Service through our Licence Plate Recognition units.”
With more than 9400 automated real-time alerts sent to police in 2023, Council’s initiative has played a key role in managing unlawful activities.
In fact, Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle offences across City of Moreton Bay fell by 4 per cent between 2022 and 2023 while in other areas they experienced increases in vehicle theft.
“The network also supports disaster operations and flood monitoring, protects Council assets, deters vandalism and illegal dumping and assists management of localised crime issues,” Mayor Flannery said.
Federal Member for Dickson Ali France said everyone deserves to feel safe where they live.
“That’s exactly why we’re investing in improving community safety measures,” she said, “to improve community safety in Moreton Bay.”
