Green light for busy intersection upgrade

Design is now complete and construction will start later this year on new traffic signals at the Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd and Regina Ave intersection, Ningi.

State Member for Pumicestone Ali King, pictured above, had pushed for the $3 million upgrade and said it would bring “big benefits” for those using the roads.

“Locals have been raising concerns about the Regina Ave intersection since before I was elected so it’s wonderful to see the project progress”, Ms King said.

"It can be difficult for drivers to find safe gaps to turn in and out of Regina Avenue, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

Improve safety

"These signals will be fully controlled to both help drivers turn safely and give pedestrians opportunity to cross.

“Signals at the intersection will improve safety and flow for more than 30,000 vehicles using the road each day.”

Ms King said the works would include signalised pedestrian crossings on Bribie Island Rd connecting nearby bus stops to Ningi Plaza retail precinct on Regina Ave.

Works will also include installing new lighting and line marking. A green-painted bike lane will be marked through the intersection to improve safety for bike riders.

Cleaner travel

“By making the road safer for cyclists we hope to encourage more locals to choose cleaner and healthier travel,” Ms King said.

"This intersection upgrade will boost safety, reduce the risk of crashes, and help pedestrians and motorists safely travel to work, shops and home."

This follows Federal and State funding of $58.35 million to upgrade Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd.

Given the high traffic volumes, work is expected to be mostly at night.
