Healthy and Active Moreton program returns

Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Healthy and Active Moreton program is kicking off again for those keen to get moving after COVID-19 isolation.

There’s a new timetable of activities, until the end of the year, for the popular program which offers free or low-cost activities to improve your fitness.

Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery says Council has increased funding for the program by $100,000 in a bid to get residents moving again.

“If there’s one thing we learned from COVID-19 it’s the importance of staying active, not only for our fitness levels but our mental health,” Mayor Flannery says.

“That’s why Council has increased our investment into Healthy and Active Moreton at this critical time, so we can expand our activities further as restrictions continue to ease and life gets back to some normality.”

What’s on offer

There are activities for little ones as young as two-years-old, over-55 exercise classes, wheelchair basketball, deaf yoga, strength training for women and plenty more.

“All of our providers are operating in accordance with State Government regulations for COVID-19 so you can rest assured that Council is committed to keeping the Moreton Bay Region safe,” he says.

“The program caters for literally anyone and everyone - and the best part is that all activities are free or low cost, which I know is important for all during tough times.”

Focus on sporting infrastructure

“It adds to the millions of dollars’ worth of work we’re fast tracking for major sports infrastructure projects across the region in the recently delivered 2020-21 Budget,” Mayor Flannery says.

Work has begun on the Les Hughes Sports Complex baseball and rugby union upgrades, the South Pine Sports Complex indoor facilities and Brisbane Roar Women’s Centre of Excellence and Youth Academy and many other projects.

“It’s just another way Council is looking to improve the lifestyle of all residents and guide the region through this pandemic.”
