Hopelessly devoted to Grease

Audiences can relive the famous love story between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson when the cast of Redcliffe Musical Theatre and ROAR Academy bring their version of Grease to the stage next month.

The young actors will don the iconic T-Bird and Pink Lady jackets for the musical extravaganza, which will be performed at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre from February 4-6.

With the show being delayed by Covid shutdowns in 2020, director Madeleine Johns says this production will be bigger and better than before.

“This show is a COVID revival. We were rehearsing for Grease in 2020 when COVID hit,” she says.

“We were rehearsing online for a while, and then when it was safe to come back together, we rehearsed in smaller group sizes to keep everyone safe.

“We performed the show in Theatre 102, which seats less people, and we also had to cap audience numbers.

“We felt like we didn’t do the show any justice, so now we are bringing it back bigger and better.”

What audiences can expect

This all-singing and all-dancing classic will feature favourites such as Summer Nights, Beauty School Dropout, You’re the One That I Want and Greased Lightnin’.

When asked what her favourite song is, Madeleine pauses to think for a few moments.

“That’s a really tough question,” she says.

“I think it would be Born to Hand Jive, which is the song that is performed during the high school dance contest.

“The guy we have playing Johnny Casino is an immensely talented actor who delivers the song with his own style and flair. He is a talented young actor who I think will go far.

“Also, the dance choreography is incredible, and I think the audience will just love it.”

A special guest appearance

Thomas Armstrong-Robley, who directed and starred in Jersey Boys at the Star Casino on the Gold Coast, will be guest starring as Teen Angel.

“He started with Redcliffe Musical Theatre when he was 15 and has done a number of shows with us,” Madeleine says.

“He has had big success on cruise ships and Jersey Boys, so we are extremely happy to have him as our guest star.”
