Howarth blasts Federal Budget

Federal LNP Member for Petrie Luke Howarth has slammed Labor’s Federal Budget, labelling it a ‘big-spending, big-taxing’ budget that will not address long-term problems.

“After less than a year on Labor in office, government spending will increase by $185 billion. Labor cannot spend its way out of its cost-of-living crisis,” Mr Howarth said in a statement today.

“This Budget does nothing to help families in Petrie get ahead.

“The reality is that people in my electorate will be hit hard with 43,130 people in the Petrie electorate worse off by $1500 and a further 50,900 families worse off by $600-$1250 by the Labor Government’s decision not to extend the Low to Middle Income Tax Offset.

“A typical family with kids will be around $25,000 worse off.”

Mr Howarth said there was more pain to come with the cost of food tipped to rise to offset the “truckies tax” being passed on to consumers.

“I have been calling on real investments that will see tangible change in cares that impact the hardworking people of Petrie in areas like housing and crime and road projects. Sadly, the reality is that for the majority there is no relief for middle income renters, Federal cuts to policing and infrastructure budgets.”
