Mueller College is preparing to open its gates and raise the curtain for two major events at its Rothwell campus next month.
The Mueller College Fete, on Saturday July 18 from 11.30am-6.30pm, promises to be bigger and better than ever with a giant Ferris wheel, show rides and show bags.
Two weeks later, the stage is set for “a tale as old as time” with three performances of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast by more than 70 students from Years 7-12.
It is described as the school’s “most ambitious show yet” and follows the college fete which continues to grow bigger every year.
“The goal is to create a fun and affordable day out for the wider community,” Head of College Paul Valese says.
“This year, you can expect even more big show rides and entertainment than ever before. It will be an event not to be missed.”
Entertainment includes sideshow alley, wildlife show, pony rides, Brisbane band Smashing Bumpkins and student band Mueller Worship.
Also a live auction, chance to have a photo with Bluey, an animal farm, face painting, food trucks, market stalls and a fireworks finale at 6.15pm.
Everyone is welcome, entry is free and ride armbands are available for pre-purchase at a reduced online price of $55 ($65 on the day), giving unlimited rides 11.30am-5.30pm. Tickets for rides can be purchased here: www.mueller.qld.edu.au
Less than two weeks later, on Friday July 31 and Saturday August 1, the stage will be set for a full-length theatrical production of Beauty and the Beast.
Show Director and Head of Arts at Mueller Simon Ratcliffe, said: “Students need to be challenged as a means of extending their life skills.
“A full-length production with a live orchestra was our next step in musicals and the Mueller community has really risen to the opportunities this has presented.”
Year 11 student Charlotte Bird will play Belle, the kind-hearted heroine who teaches a beast and a town how to love.
“The best part of being in the musical is I really enjoy the culture,” Charlotte says, “it’s really exciting to come together as a family cast.
“This show’s cast is special because everyone is a perfect fit for their character.”
With classic songs and a secluded castle full of eccentric characters, the show brings the best in family theatre to the stage with over 70 students.
The shows are on Friday July 31 at 6pm and Saturday August 1 matinee at 1pm and closing show 6pm at Mueller Performing Arts Centre, 75 Morris Rd, Rothwell.
Tickets are $28 and available from www.mueller.qld.edu.au
