Hundreds help plan huge upgrade
More than 300 pieces of community feedback have been received for plans to duplicate 3.3kms of Deception Bay Road.
The latest round of consultation finished earlier this month and will be used to finalise the project’s planning.
"Now we can start detailed design and get an accurate project of cost so we can get construction funding in future budgets,” State Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting said.
“This stretch of Deception Bay Road is used by around 21,000 motorists a day and is needed to ease local congestion,” Mr Whiting said.
“The upgrades will also give local motorists and property owner better protection during extreme weather events.
"New water retention basins, including four basins at the new Priests Road intersection, will be able to hold millions of litres of stormwater.”
The preferred layout, released earlier this month, also includes:
- a fauna overpass across Deception Bay Road, with fencing to stop animals getting on the road
- upgraded, signalised intersections to improve traffic flow, safety and reduce congestion
- new service roads on the western end to improve safety and accessibility
- off-road active transport paths
- a new signalised pedestrian crossing between Park/Lipscombe roads and Tallagon Court
- eight bus stops.
State Member for Kurwongbah Shane King said the upgrade would make the stretch of Deception Bay Road easier and safer to use.
“This critical road links Deception Bay residents to the Bruce Highway, so it’s great to see we’ve taken this important step to getting upgrades done,” Mr King said.
“It comes as part of the State Government’s $1.1 billion, four-year transport and roads plan for Moreton Bay, supporting jobs in the region.”
