Join in march against domestic violence

The community is invited to come together and march again domestic abuse in Redcliffe on October 15.

The show of strength is part of the Moreton Bay Says NO 2 Violence (MBSN2V) campaign, an initiative of Encircle, which formed a steering committee to raise awareness of domestic and family violence in the region by hosting a peaceful march in Redcliffe followed by a formal ceremony.

The event, which aims to bring the community together against violence towards women, children, and men is the group’s 13th and the theme for 2021 is ‘Raise Your Voice Against Violence’.

An Encircle spokesperson says interest and support for the annual march continues to grow, with state and federal politicians, community groups, the region’s schools, local media outlets, community organisations, residents and businesspeople taking part.

“Violence against women is at epidemic proportions. Devastatingly, over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia because of intimate partner violence,” the spokesperson says.

“Approximately one quarter of women in Australia have experienced at least one incident of violence by an intimate partner. These women’s lives are not just statistics – they are wives, mothers, daughters, grand-daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends, and colleagues. Most importantly they are people, and the impact of the violence perpetrated against them is widespread and long-standing.”

Participants in the march will gather on October 15 at Rotary Park from 8.30am for a 9am start. They will march along the waterfront up to The Komo Hotel, where the formal ceremony will be held. For details, head to the Facebook event
