Kim ready for "weighting game"

Kim Prince is about to take another step in a remarkable journey from the circus high wire to triathlon and world champion bodybuilder.

But now the Albany Creek resident is preparing to spend her 49th birthday taking on the world’s best powerlifters in Wales.

Despite weighing in at 66kg, Kim can dead lift 200kg - three times her body weight.

The open competition next month will have no weight or age classes … “so I have no idea what I will be up against,” Kim said.

“My personal goals are to beat my previous competition weights for all three lifts.

“I currently hold the female masters Australian natural record for the deadlift at 201kg so I would love to beat that.”

Kim trains every day of the week, doing weights five times in 90-minute sessions, with cycling, walking or swimming on the other two days.

Now a lecturer in cardiac ultrasound at Brisbane CQU, Kim has thrived on challenges since being a child performer with the Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

She mastered the trapeze, Spanish web and acrobatics under the guidance of Chinese coaches and it instilled a lifelong discipline and fearlessness.

That would later fuel her transformation from an overweight health professional to a powerhouse athlete who dropped more than 20kg in 12 weeks and never looked back.

“I like to see what my body can achieve physically and mentally, that is what drives me,” she said.

“Also getting out of my comfort zone and seeing what my body in its natural state can do. I like to challenge myself.

“My best time on stage is anytime I’m on stage. I try to show how much fun I’m having up there. I do it because I enjoy it.”

She trains at Zerow in Lutwyche, The Strength in Zillmere and works with the Women’s Sports Academy

At 42, Kim stunned the natural bodybuilding world by clinching the World Championship in Las Vegas, just 18 months after stepping into the sport.

Since then, she has won titles in bodybuilding, powerlifting and strongwoman competitions — while strictly drug-free. Accolades include:

2018 - World Champion Natural Bodybuilding (Olympia All Natural, Las Vegas)

2020 - Winner, Beasts of Burden Strongwoman (u72kg)

2022 - Winner, UK Strongwoman Open (Hartfield)

2023 - Winner, Women’s Masters Division, Australia’s Strongest International (Bendigo Aus)

2023 - Winner, Women’s Masters Division, Emirates Strongest International (Dubai)

2024 - 3rd Women’s Masters, World Championships Strongwoman (Ireland)

2024 - National champion, U67.5kg Masters Women’s Tested Powerlifting, and overall Masters heaviest female lifter

Then, two years ago, Kim added triathlons to her resume and credits training with Suttons Swim Group in Redcliffe, for helping her over “some fears of ocean swimming”.

Beyond competition, Kim advocates for community health and empowerment, donating her time free posing classes at Unique Crew, runs Strongwoman/man events in Stafford and Kedron and offers coaching support to athletes without trainers.

She co-organized “Her Roar” to encourage women to try strength sports and leads workshops for Indigenous youth and disadvantaged women through Iron Tracks and the Women’s Sports Academy.
