Landmark for Bribie health centre
Bribie Island Satellite Health Care has marked its first birthday with figures revealing the number of patients it has received.
Since opening 12 months ago, on July 17, the health centre at Bongaree has provided more than 22,067 ‘episode of care’.
The Queensland Health website shows Bribie also had 13,748 ‘unplanned care presentations at the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic’ in the 11 months to May.
More than half (7014) were listed as Category 4 – “potentially serious or situational urgency requiring assessment and treatment with 60 minutes”.
Another 3064 were Category 3 – “potentially life-threatening or situational urgency requiring assessment and treatment with 30 minutes”.
Bribie Island Satellite Health Care has six Category 1 presentations, which were “immediately life-threatening” needing “immediate assessment and treatment”.
Alongside the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, Bribie Island Health Care Centre has a Day Medical Treatment Unit, Cancer Care, Kidney Health and Outpatient Mental Health Services.
Also, a Healthy Ageing Assessment and Rehabilitation Team (HAART), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Hub and medical imaging.
“For people who require regular medical treatment such as cancer care or kidney dialysis, having these services available close to home can save them hours of travel each week,” Kieren Bailey, Nurse Unit Manager for the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic & Day Medical Treatment Unit, said.
Bongaree resident Lynette Broadway-Hill has been supported by the HAART team through her recovery from a broken hip and ongoing management of Parkinson’s Disease.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the HAART team for helping me learn to walk and drive again. Having this service available close to home was invaluable,” the 79-year-old said.
“I’m now working towards returning to ocean swimming with my daily swim group, the Bobpers. We do a combination of bopping and bobbing at Woorim Beach, every day of the year.”
Since its opening in March 2025, the HAART team has supported 1819 patients, like Lynette.
Kallangur Satellite Health Care Centre opened in Stoker Way on December 1, 2023 and in the 11 months to May had 29,603 unplanned care presentations at the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic.
