Latest on $163 million overpass upgrade
Work on the new Deception Bay overpass on the Bruce Highway is gathering pace with motorists and residents warned of more heavy machinery, noise, dust and temporary lighting.
The January update on the $163 million project says the construction teams will be continuing with earthworks, drainage works and piling for the first of two new bridges across the highway.
Traffic changes
Areas impacted are on the Bruce Highway, Old Gympie Rd, New Settlement Rd, Deception Bay Rd and the Eastern Service Rd.
As a result, there may be localised traffic changes, speed limits, detours and traffic controllers in place. With heavy machinery in operation, dust and noise may increase.
There will be an increase in construction traffic near the work zones and temporary lighting towers will be in place during nightwork.
Sooner and safer
Night work will be done from mid-to-late January to remove the centre median along Deception Bay Rd.
- Federal Member for Longman Terry Young said motorists using this stretch of the Bruce Highway may see congestion, particularly during peak hours.
- “This upgrade will tackle the problem of drivers getting stuck along the existing two-lane bridge when they’re trying to get to work or home to their families,” Mr Young says.
- “We need to upgrade the interchange so we can support the economy and productivity and get people home sooner and safer.”
