Learn tips to discover your family history
Have you ever wanted to know more about where you came from? Are you secretly addicted to watching Who Do You Think You Are?
History Redcliffe is hosting free workshops ahead of the Queensland State Local and Family History Conference on the Redcliffe peninsula next month.
The local history group is partnering with History Queensland to host the three-day conference at Redcliffe Leagues Club from October 21-23. More information and tickets can be found here
It will offer something for everybody - seasoned historians, research novices or those who are just feeling curious.
There will be interesting speakers, information about DNA, trade exhibits, free workshops, research tips, genealogy resources.
Keynote speakers making presentations are Jennifer Harrison, Shauna Hicks and Michelle Patient.
All day Saturday and Sunday until 1pm conference delegates will attend speaker presentations and enjoy refreshments.
A trade fair with free access for the general public will run concurrently with the conference at Redcliffe Leagues Club from October 21 until noon Sunday, October 23.
It will provide an opportunity for societies and organisations to promote their products and services, not only to conference delegates but also the wider community.
Free workshops will be held before the conference on Friday, October 21 and include:
- Preserving surveying heritage by genealogy process with Bill Kitson
- The research process: effective research tips with Rick Aindow
- Building digital resources to understand genealogy in context with Mark Finnane
- Resources to assist with Queensland historical land research with Kaye Nardella
A History Redcliffe spokewoman says it has been possible to host the conference at an affordable price thanks to sponsors Ancestry, MyHeritage, Gould Genealogy, Joy Murrin, Traders in Purple, Think2B Group, State Member for Redcliffe Yvette D'Ath, Margate Community Bank Bendigo Bank and some wonderful "Friends of the Conference" who have donated $1500 towards costs.
