Leisure precinct coming to Deception Bay

Concept drawings have been released for a new leisure precinct at Deception Bay, ahead of a public information day on June 27.

The precinct will be created at the former DPI Fisheries site at Joseph Crescent.

Demolition of the old DPI buildings was finished last year, and Moreton Bay Regional Council is now ready to undertake nearly $3 million in works to transform the area into a leisure precinct.

The project aims to create a hub for the Deception Bay community, with a playground, kiosk, meeting areas and indigenous displays.

What will be there?

The first stage includes construction of a new community facility with a meeting space, kitchenette, canteen, amenities block, pathways and off-street car parking.

Stage 2 includes construction of new park infrastructure including pathways, seating nodes, refurbishment of an existing storage shed, play equipment, outdoor gathering spaces, regeneration planting and landscaping.

The concept plans and images are for public information only. The design plans form part of a Development Application which will be lodged later this year.

Why this is needed?

“I know locals have been calling for this for many years, and it’s something the Mayor has been working on for some time now,” Cr Sandra Ruck explains.

“So, I’m very excited to see this getting underway in my first term as a new Councillor. There’ll be a lot more good news for Deception Bay and the Division 5 area in this year’s Budget (being handed down on Friday 26 June).

“If coronavirus has taught us anything, it’s the importance of outdoor spaces, so I’m keen to see more of this type of investment into our community to support an active and outdoor lifestyle in our region.”

Come to information day

Residents are invited to attend an information day at Deception Bay Library on Saturday, June 27 from 9am-noon.

A Moreton Bay Regional Council officer will be present on the day to answer questions. If you can’t attend, the plans and a fly-over video of the proposal will be available for viewing for one week afterwards.
