Lions prove too strong for Tigers in 2023 AFL Councillors’ Cup
Burpengary’s Moreton Bay Lions AFL Club has won the perpetual Councillors’ Cup over the Redcliffe Tigers for the 10th year in a row at the weekend.
As part of the Cup, which launched in 2010, teams from both clubs - the Moreton Bay Lions in Moreton Bay Regional Council's Division 2, and the Redcliffe Tigers in Division 5 - battle it out for the glory of taking home the trophy.
This year, the Under-17 Girls kicked off proceedings, followed by the Men’s Reserves, then the main match with the Senior Men, with the Under-17 Boys rounding out a day of action at Redcliffe’s home ground at Nathan Rd.

Two of the Lions’ four teams proved too strong for hosts Redcliffe.
In the Under-17 Girls Moreton Bay took the honours 5.4.34 to the Tigers’ 1.1.7, while the Men’s Reserves was a more even contest, with the Lions finishing 5.8.38 to Redcliffe’s 6.2.38.
It was a different story for the Senior Men when they battled it out for the Cup, with the Lions finishing a blistering 100 points ahead of the Tigers in a match that ended 17.10.112 to 1.6.12.
Only Redcliffe’s Under-17 Boys came away victorious on Saturday, posting a score of 8.3.51 to the Lions’ 3.12.30.
