Manufacturer recognised for environmental efforts

A Brendale business that develops and manufactures electronic products for companies across the world has been recognised for its commitment to protecting the environment.

Elexon Electronics was awarded an ISO 14001 certification, a voluntary standard of criteria for implementing an effective Environmental Management System, which minimises its environmental impact and contributes to a sustainable future.

Elexon Electronics’ chief executive officer Frank Faller said successful management systems and the installation of smart technology have always been a key focus for the business.

“With the electronics industry and its products having a higher-than-average impact on today’s environment, we take waste elimination, effective and efficient production processes, and smart and responsible product design considering the whole lifecycle of our product, very seriously,” Mr Faller said.

Elexon Electronics’ quality manager Kylie Warren said the business “can’t be complacent during the production process”.

“We need to make sure that we drive down waste and also that planning for recycling, refurbishment, or disposal of our products is done before we take on a new job or design a new product.”

The company pursued the certification last year as part of its growth and sustainability initiative, linked to the company’s push for involvement in Defence and space projects.

The company has now set its sights on obtaining a 9100D certification, which is the aerospace industry quality standard. The business hopes to have this finalised in the coming months.

Elexon Electronics was also named Business of the Year at the 2021 Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence and Innovation Awards. The company also took out the inaugural Advanced Manufacturing Excellence Award.
