Massive Murri Carnival kick-off in Redcliffe

The Queensland Murri Carnival has kicked-off in Redcliffe bringing 38,000 rugby league players, coaches and supporters to this region.

For six days teams from under six to open men and women will be playing at Moreton Daily Stadium and the Dick ‘Tosser’ Turner fields at Kippa-Ring.

The carnival, being held in the Moreton Bay Region for an eighth successive year, draws teams from South-East Queensland and far beyond.

Run by the Arthur Beetson Foundation and Deadly Choices, sponsored by Moreton Bay Regional Council, the carnival has a major focus on health and education.

“We love the Murri Carnival here in Moreton Bay,” Mayor Peter Flannery said, “it gives us a great opportunity to celebrate our wonderful first nations people and their culture, under the banner of rugby league.

“It’s just a great example of the power of sport to bring people together and promote positive messaging around young people’s health.

“The late great Artie Beetson is one of the most famous Redcliffe people to have ever graced us, and a great role model for indigenous people.

“So personally, for me it’s just an honour to help carry on his legacy, and it ties into the work Council is doing to deliver our first Recon-cil-iation Action Plan.”

The Queensland Murri Carnival runs until Sunday October 2. Entry from September 27-29 inclusive is free. September 30-October 2 entry fees apply – adults $10, pensioners $5, under 18s free, three-day adult pass $25, three-day pensioner pass $10.
