Medals and pbs for Redcliffe

Redcliffe Leagues swimmer Rylee Smith will be in seven events - ranging from 100m to 1500m - in the Australian Age Championships at the Gold Coast starting on Friday.

Smith warmed up by racing five events and winning two medals in the Queensland Schools Sports titles at Chandler on March 29-31.

She won a silver medal as runner-up in the 400m individual medley clocking a personal best (pb) by 9.67 seconds.

That was followed by a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley, also in a personal best time, taking 6.7 seconds off her pb.

Smith is being considered for the Queensland team in both events. She was also fourth in the 200m freestyle, sixth at 200m backstroke and ninth in the 100m backstroke.

Redcliffe had four swimmers qualify and experience heats and finals at the 2023 McDonald’s Brisbane Junior Championships.

Between them, Erin Anthony, Elissa Chapman, Charlotte Leeming and Boston Silver (see feature picture) competed in 18 events and had 15 personal best times.

It was described as a “tremendous achievement” for the swimmers “gaining excellent results from their training and learning race craft”.

The Australian Age Championships are from April 7-15.
