More than 100 new jobs at The Komo Hotel

More than 100 new jobs are on offer at one of Redcliffe’s largest entertainment venues.

With The Komo Hotel due to reopen after extensive renovations in March, the venue is in recruitment mode, looking for new staff across a range of positions.

The hotel, bought by the Lewis Land Group in September, is undergoing a $3 million transformation.

Lewis Leisure Queensland Regional Manager Chris Allison says the focus of the revamped venue will be on delivering quality food and beverages with great service.

Sweeping views

“In the main area one of the opportunities we saw was to marry the inside to the outside and take advantage of the view,” Mr Allison says.

“We’re making it a warm place where you want to settle in and stay.”

Mr Allison says Lewis Leisure is proud to be part of the Redcliffe community, adding The Komo to its local portfolio along with the Belvedere Hotel.

“We will be one of the largest employers in the region, with more than 200 jobs in the community when The Komo is open,” he says.

Local patrons

While many businesses suffered as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, Mr Allison says the Belvedere has attracted local clientele and day-trippers.

“The border closures were not ideal, but for us as a destination it was good for business, for people to stay local and buy local.

“We’re proud to see Redcliffe becoming more of a tourist destination.”

Mr Allison says some staff will move from the Belvedere to The Komo, and Lewis Leisure needs to hire more than 100 new people across both venues.

More jobs

“We’re looking for everything from function and administration staff to chefs,” he says.

“It means more jobs and more money for the community.”

The venue’s name change, from Mon Komo Hotel to The Komo Hotel is a nod to its colloquial name, Mr Allison says.

“Mon Komo means `my dream place’ – now it will the `the dream place’.”

Mr Allison says Lewis Leisure is looking forward to a long future in the region.

“We’re Peninsula proud,” he says.
