Moreton Bay Region police station opening hours: myths busted

While not all Moreton Bay Region police station counters operate around the clock, police are on hand to deal with crime 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Moreton District Crime Prevention Unit community engagement officer Senior Constable Jo Arthur says police often see comments on social media debating the opening hours of local police stations.

“There are 11 stations within the District, which is divided into three patrol groups: Moreton North, Peninsula and Pine,” Sen-Constable Arthur says.

“There are myths around stations like North Lakes, Deception Bay and Bribie Island that police are not working from these stations after a certain time, or that calls to service for those areas come from neighbouring stations.

“These stations are certainly 24/7 with police working from these stations and attending to the community’s needs after hours.

“The confusion is created because some front counters of police stations are not open and available for walk-ins after certain times.”

Sen-Constable Arthur says police are rostered outside of the counter opening times and are often out on the road patrolling or attending to calls.

She says each patrol group is also policed by officers from the Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection Investigation Unit, Highway Patrol, the Moreton Dog Squad, Scenes of Crime, the Domestic and Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit, Forensic Crash Unit and the Moreton Tactical Crime Squad.

“There are blue phones at the front of police stations that you can use in an emergency if you attend a station and it is unoccupied,” she says.

“These blue phones connect free to Police link.”

She says people should phone Triple-Zero (000) to report emergencies and Policelink on 13 1444 for all other matters.
