Moreton Bay scores poetry slam dunk

Roses are red, violets are blue, Moreton Bay Region has a Poetry Slam and Masterclass for you.

There’ll be no dark and stormy nights on Wednesday, August 5, when professional slammer Angela Peita hosts an online Slam Masterclass from 5.30-7.30pm.

It will be followed a week later by the Queensland Poetry Festival, Australian Poetry Slam heats for this region on August 12 from 6.30-8.30pm.

Mayor Peter Flannery urged newcomers and veterans to take part in both events if they dreamed of becoming the Edgar Allan Poe of the 21st century.

“This is a great opportunity for all aspiring writers and performers that should be taken with both hands,” the Mayor says.

“Angela Peita is a powerful spoken word performer, who has appeared at Woodford Folk Festival multiple times.

“I think you’d be wise to soak up everything she has to offer, especially if you are looking to enter the Poetry Slam heats a week later.”

Two contestants from will go to the state final at the Queensland Poetry Festival. Winners there will have a chance to compete at Sydney Opera House for a shot at national glory.

“Do Moreton Bay proud if you consider yourself a wordsmith or someone who loves the spotlight,” says the Mayor.

Contestants will have two minutes to perform original spoken word poetry online to win over a digital audience and judges.
