New $17.5m PCYC taking shape
Construction is in full swing at PCYC Caboolture’s new $17.5 million purpose-built home on King Street.
Eleven, eight-metre-tall tilt panels – which form the structure of the new building - were installed last week.
Plans are to have PCYC Caboolture move into the facility later this year, after three decades nearby in Toovey St.
The new club will have a dedicated youth space, sport, recreation and community areas, an upgraded gymnastics facility, 24/7 Gym+Fitness centre and basketball court.
It will be fully insulated, have solar panels and batteries installed, a carpark with at least two all-access designated spaces, external security and carpark lighting.
“This new club will allow PCYC Queensland to continue delivering important youth development programs to the Caboolture community,” PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz said
“These programs, After Dark, Drop In, our Youth Leadership Team and our driver mentoring program Braking the Cycle, are at the heart of what PCYC Queensland is all about.
“The new club will also have brand-new high-quality facilities for Gym+Fitness, sports, gymnastics, martial arts – everything you would expect from a PCYC.”
PCYC Caboolture’s new centre is funded by the Federal Government ($10 million), State Government ($5 million) and Moreton Bay City Council ($2.5 million).
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said: “We know how important sport is in the lives of our young people.
“This new PCYC will create more opportunities for them engage in sporting programs and after school activities.
“Our PCYCs offer quality facilities and programs which provide transformative opportunities for people of all ages.”
State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said. “It’s so exciting for our local community to now see the walls of their new PCYC now standing tall.”
Mayor Peter Flannery said “it is exciting to see the build in full swing” and Cr Adam Hain (Div 3) believes the PCYC “will support generations of young people, helping them grow into confident, connected members of our community.”
