New Deception Bay Community Hall officially opens

The official opening of Deception Bay’s Community Hall was among the highlights of the Moreton Bay Region’s second Community Council Meeting.

The $3.7 million project will be the new home of main lessee Deception Bay Meals on Wheels with a modern new kitchen and workspace.

Built with a $2.5 million contribution from the federal government, it will also be available for community groups to use and includes a new community facility with meeting spaces, a kitchenette, supper room and an amenities block.

A Welcome to Country was performed by Kabi Kabi elder Lyndon Davis, followed by a Haka and Samoan dancers to celebrate the area’s large Pacific Island community.

After the ceremony, Moreton Bay Regional Council held its regular council meeting in the new facility’s main hall.
