New fire station to open soon

The new $6 million Moreton Bay Central Fire and Rescue Station is on track to open in two months.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) said the station, in Narangba, is “expected to become operational in November”.

“This station will provide contemporary front-line fire and emergency services response capability for the Moreton Bay Central communities,” the spokesperson said.

“The new permanent station will include three engine bays, duty office, training room, turnout room and locker room and will accommodate two urban pumper tankers in addition to various specialised equipment.”

Officials check out the plans for the new fire station at yesterday's ground-breaking ceremony.

Ground was broken at the 5000sqm site in March and when completed the station will provide 24/7 cover to the fast-ground area.

The site was unveiled in July 2021 after a campaign, driven by Mango Hill Progress Association, to boost emergency service cover in the area.

Currently, the nearest fire stations to North Lakes are at Burpengary, Deception Bay, Kippa-Ring, Redcliffe and Petrie.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Greg Leach said at the time, it was an “important development to ensure we are able to continue to meet the needs of the growing community”.

“It will enable firefighters to not only respond quickly to emergencies but provide the opportunity to work with the community to prevent incidents occurring," he said.

“The location of the new station has been carefully considered to ensure it will provide the best operational response to the surrounding area, in conjunction with existing fire stations.”

Commissioner Leach was joined on site by Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Steven Miles, the Member for Murrumba.

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan, the State Member for Morayfield and Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting were also at the sod turning.
