New hospital parking fees revealed
Redcliffe Hospital’s new car park will open next month with fees reported to be the lowest in the Metro North Hospital and Health Services region.
State Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath says the 600-capacity car park’s opening charges will also be frozen for three years.
The highest charge will be $13 for parking between six and 24 hours, then:
- $11 for 4-6 hours
- $9 for 3-4 hours
- $7 for 2-3 hours
- $5 for 1-2 hours
- $3 for 15-60 minutes and 0-15 minutes free.
Staff will pay a pro rata daily fee of $7.95, charged each fortnight through salary deductions.
Fee guarantee
“I promised that the fees will not exceed $15 per day and I’m happy to announce no one will pay more than $13 per day, guaranteed for at least three years,” Mrs D’Ath says.
“The Palaszczuk Government has been able to keep parking fees low because we did not outsource the car park to a private operator.
“The new car park will be owned and run by Metro North HHS and the Redcliffe Hospital.”
Mrs D’Ath guaranteed the fees will not be reviewed until at least December 2023 ensuring “affordable parking” is available to hospital users.
Opening date
The new car park will open on Monday September 21 increasing the hospital’s parking capacity by 50 per cent, with extra levels able to be added, if needed, in the future.
The first two weeks will see no charges to help hospital users get used to the new parking arrangements. Most visitors to the hospital stay for two hours or less.
It is the first time a hospital car park has been owned and operated by Metro North HHS and a hospital.
“We know the doctors, nurses and hospital staff at the Redcliffe Hospital do amazing work and I am pleased that paid parking for staff will be lower than it is other hospitals,” says Mrs D’Ath
“The majority of patients and visitors stay at the hospital for 2 hours or less, meaning most car park users won’t pay more than $5 each visit.”
Concessions available
Concessions will be available for eligible patients and carers via the usual Metro North Hospital and Health Service policy which provides 50 per cent concession for frequent attendees (patient or primary carer), 50 per cent concession for extended stay (patient or primary carer) and full discretion for financial hardship and special need applications.
