New plans for former golf course
Public consultation has opened on new plans to develop land which was formerly North Lakes Resort Golf Course.
The Village Retirement Group (TVRG) has changed some elements from previous applications lodged with Moreton Bay Regional Council.
But, Save North Lakes Golf Course (SNLGC) action group is still calling on residents to object to the plans and retain the “green space”.
On its Facebook page, SNLGC says the application “will fundamentally undermine important planning protections provided by the Development Control Plan master plan over the last 20-plus years.”
TVRG’s new development application includes a retirement village (up to 250 villas) and aged care facility (with up to 120 beds).
The developer’s previous proposals for a private school, occasional markets and catering premises have been removed.

Under the new submission TVRG says it would return 46 hectares of land to council to be maintained as public space.
However, TVRG’s conditions for this include not being "required” to pay Council infrastructure charges for the retirement village and aged care facility.
SNLGC says the latest development application also includes TVRG retaining an eight-hectare parcel of land which was ear-marked for a school.

Public notification period for the application started today and is required to be publicly notified for 30 business days.

SNLGC has challenged plans for the land since 2018 and most recently collated more than 1300 submissions against proposals for the new school.
The residents’ group is also calling for objections against State Government proposals for Development Control Plans.
A pillar of SNLGC’s campaign is the Mango Hill Infrastructure Development Control Plan (MHIDCP) - which TVRG is seeking to “vary”.
As such SNLGC wants residents to challenge the proposals in a Queensland Government Consultation Paper released this month.
It puts forward changes to “ensure the modernised assessment system created under the Planning Act applies to development in DCP areas.”
North Lakes Resort Golf Course opened in 2002 and within 18 months was rated among the top 25 public courses in Australia.
TVRG bought the course in 2018 and later said membership had dropped to under 150. The course closed the same year.
