New scanner “major step forward”

Redcliffe’s first PET-CR scanning service is now open giving cancer patients closer access to life-saving imaging.

Available at Qscan Redcliffe, the service will save patients making trips to North Lakes and Brisbane while undergoing cancer treatment.

With demand for cancer imaging growing, the new service is expected to support hundreds of patients in Moreton Bay each year.

Medicare-eligible PET-CT scans at Qscan Redcliffe will be bulk billed, reducing out-of-pocket costs for eligible patients.

Qscan is one of two major tenants at the 4500sqm Altiva health hub in Silvyn St, close to Redcliffe Hospital.

“This is an immensely significant milestone for the Redcliffe community and for the City of Moreton Bay,” State Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley said.

“Currently, Redcliffe Hospital does not have a PET scan facility and the nearest is at North Lakes, with the closest public option at the Royal Brisbane.

“Having this service available locally is a major step forward and a wonderful outcome for our community, bringing vital healthcare closer to home.”

The PET-CT service forms part of the $30 million Altiva Health medical precinct, which will include GenesisCare radiation oncology services creating a cancer care hub for Redcliffe.

PET-CT scans help clinicians detect, stage and monitor cancer, supporting earlier diagnosis and treatment planning. The service is supported by specialist radiologists.

Qscan Radiology Clinics was founded 20 years ago and delivers advanced imaging services including X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET-CT and nuclear medicine.

Demand for cancer imaging is increasing, with more than 35,000 Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer annually and Moreton Bay is projected to reach 700,000 residents by 2041.
