Open day at new satellite hospital
Bribie Island’s new satellite hospital will open its doors early on Thursday for a special Community Open Day.
Visitors will be able to view the new facility at 103 First Ave, Bongaree, from 9am-noon. The July 11 open day begins with a Welcome to Country.
The healthcare team will be available to meet, greet and answer questions in three sessions, at 10am, 10.45am and 11.30am.
Walk-throughs of the Minor Injuries and Illness Clinic and Kidney Health Service/Day Medical Treatment Unit will be offered in small groups to manage numbers.
Onsite parking is limited but open for those displaying a Disability Parking Permit.
There is offsite street parking and a free shuttle bus will operate to and from Bribie Island Satellite Hospital. For details click here.
State Member for Pumicestone Ali King said the new satellite hospital “is just what the doctor ordered for our community”.
“I encourage locals who are interested to come along to the community open day to find out about the services and tour the satellite hospital,” she said.
“The minor injury and illness centre will provide free urgent care, right in the heart of our community.
“It means locals won’t have to travel to receive care, while taking pressure off our busy local emergency departments and GPs.”
The first official tour of the satellite hospital was held last week when Premier Steven Miles, Deputy Premier Cameron Dick and Health Minister Shannon Fentiman joined Ali King to look round the facility.
Bribie Island Satellite Hospital Minor Injury and Illness Clinic will officially open on July 17 from 8am-10pm, seven days a week.
It will be for urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, such as fractures, wounds, minor burns, abrasions, sprains, minor head injuries, infections and fever.
The satellite hospital will also provide renal dialysis, day medical treatments and outpatient mental health services and have an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Hub.
Stage two will open in early 2025, with cancer care services where patients can access chemotherapy, oral health services and a Healthy Aging Assessment and Rehabilitation Team.
