Piling to start on new bridge

Piling work is about to start for the steel infrastructure of the new pedestrian overpass on Elizabeth Ave, Clontarf.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) said work is due to start today for about 12 weeks, weather and construction conditions permitting.

For safety reasons, there will be an exclusion zone around machinery, equipment and workers. Residents must follow signs and traffic controller directions.

This will include drilling out and installing steel linings, installing reinforcement cages and concrete pouring.

TMR's contractor will work 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, weather and site conditions permitting. Occasional works may also be needed 5-10pm.

Impacts are likely to include large vehicles and specialist machinery and trucks for earthwork. Noise, vibration and possible dust can be expected.

TMR says it will “strive to balance impacts to the community and motorists using the road network during these busier times”.

Traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and road signage will be in place to advise of the changed conditions and to ensure motorist and roadworker safety.

Priority access through the work site will be given to emergency vehicles.

TMR says it “understands roadworks can be frustrating for nearby businesses, residents and road users and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders during these activities”.
