Plea to get vaccinated

Residents in the Moreton Bay Region who have not yet had a COVID-19 vaccine are being urged to do so before borders are expected to open to interstate travellers on December 17.

According to figures released by the Federal Government today, 82 per cent of residents, aged 15 years and over, in the Moreton Bay Region have received their first dose and 67.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Pop-up vaccination clinics have been running at local schools, selected Bunnings Warehouse outlets in addition to community hubs, GPs, hospitals and pharmacies.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says those who were fully vaccinated were 86 per cent less likely to contract COVID and pass it on to a loved one. The chance of dying from COVID falls by 90 per cent for those who are fully vaccinated.

“The more Queenslanders vaccinated, the safer we’ll be,” Ms Palaszczuk says.

Queensland’s Vaccination Plan identifies fewer border restrictions as the state reaches 70 and 80 per cent of the eligible population fully vaccinated. Greater restrictions could apply to the unvaccinated.

“We cannot protect you if you won’t protect yourself,” Ms Palaszczuk says.
