Podium places for Redcliffe quartet

Redcliffe Tri Club had four category winners in Sunday’s Moreton Bay Triathlon, which started as the sun rose over the peninsula.

Leith Austin won the 40-44 years age category of the Classic race, held over a 2km swim, 60km bike ride and 15km run based at Pelican Park, Clontarf.

Club colleague Tom Grieve was runner-up in the 25-29 years category and Thinus Heunis third in the 50-54 years race.

In the Club race (1km swim, 30km ride, 7.5km run), Redcliffe’s Karen Reardon won the 60-64 years section and Sophie Burger the 16-19 years category.

Marek Blencowe was also runner-up in the 55-59 years race and Jeremy Guard third in the 50-54 years event.

The Enticer race (300m swim, 10km ride and 2.5km run), saw Redcliffe’s Carolyn Niemeyer take first place in the 30-34 years category.

There was also a Cool Kids race (100m swim, 2km bike ride and 500m run) for those aged seven and older.

Sunday’s events were rescheduled from last month after wet weather made areas of Pelican Park unusable.

Next year’s event has already been schedule for mid-May. at the same venue.
