Police round-up: Driver fined, welder stolen
Operation Cold Snap
Moreton Bay Police are encouraging motorists to create a safer environment for locals and visitors by calling out excuses for poor and unsafe driving.
They’re running Operation Cold Snap to coincide with the school holidays and an increase in vehicles on the roads.
The operation includes a highly visible police presence and roadside drug and alcohol testing to detect offences and enforce the road rules.
Moreton Police community engagement officer Senior-Constable Jo Arthur says a safer drive is in everyone’s hands.
“Next time you hear someone make an excuse for poor or unsafe driving behaviour, we challenge you to challenge them,” she says.
Since Friday, June 24, Moreton police have issued 83 traffic infringement notices for life-endangering offences including failing to wear a seat belt, speeding and using a mobile phone while driving.
“Police have conducted 466 roadside breath tests, arrested 12 drink drivers and seven drug drivers,” Sen-Constable Arthur says.
A 31-year-old man from Harristown was fined $1286 and lost his licence for six months after he was issued with a speeding infringement notice on the D’Aguilar Highway at Woodford.
The man was allegedly detected by police travelling at 145 kmh in an 80 kmh zone.
Generator stolen
Bold thieves stole a generator, drop saw and ladder from a construction site at Brendale between 3pm on June 25 and 6.30am on June 27.
Unknown offenders entered the locked Robertson St building site by scaling a fence and cutting through a lock.
A cable and chain attached to the generator were also cut.
Plasma cutting machine missing
A box trailer and other engineering equipment were stolen from a shed at Morayfield Rd, Caboolture South between June 21 and June 28.
Unknown offenders peeled back galvanised wall sheeting to gain entry to the industrial shed where the equipment was stored.
A CNC brand Swifty 600 plasma cutting machine, a CIG welder and a Unimig plasma cutting machine were among the items taken, along with the galvanised box trailer with no cages and the Queensland registration ET0-169.
