Power's finest hour, says president
President Craig Feuerriegel has hailed Peninsula Power’s back-to-back state premierships as the club’s “greatest achievement”.
Power retained the title with a 3-0 win over Easts on October 8 and lifted the 2021 NPL Qld Premiership trophy on Saturday.
It was the club’s third premiership in four years since joining the state league with the FQPL in 2018 and NPL Qld 2020, 2021.
“To be consistently the best team in Queensland’s top level of men’s football over two seasons makes this the greatest achievement,” Feuerriegel said.
First to three
“We want to maintain our success in the NPL Qld competition. To be the first club to win three NPL Qld Premiers’ titles would be a magnificent feat.
“However, this is a very tough competition and maintaining consistency is our first aim.”
Feuerriegel, President since Power started in 2000, was “not surprised” by the success and said “consistency in our structures” throughout the club, was one of the keys.
“We (committees and members) work extremely hard on and off the field to build the success,” he said.
Fantastic community
“The coaches continue to identify and evaluate players in many different areas to get the best they can individually and as a team.
“We have fantastic community support from sponsors and our club/brand is well recognised throughout Queensland and Australia.”
Feuerriegel said the club’s goals when leaving Brisbane’s Premier League (BPL) for the NPL Qld at the end of 2017 season were simple.
“It was to represent our community at the highest level of football in Queensland,” the president said.
National division
“To give our players, sponsors and supporters the opportunity to represent and be a part of the best football state level competition at their club.”
Four years later: “The National Second Division continues evolve through working groups at the national level,” Feuerriegel said.
“Our interest to be a part of this has not changed and we await the outcome from Football Australia.
“As with any competition that our club enters into, we want to be successful and win trophies.”
Power's next target is the end-of-season finals. After Sunday's final match of the regular season, at Sunshine Coast Wanderers, Power will face Lions, Olympic or Wanderers in the semi-finals.
