"Preferred solution" for Bruce Highway

Meetings were starting today with property owners impacted by the “preferred solution” to upgrading the Bruce Highway through Moreton Bay region.
Letters were sent yesterday about possible future land requirements in an 18km stretch of highway between North Lakes and Caboolture.
Around 90 privately-owned homes are impacted by the planning, as well as state-owned land, council and commercial properties.
Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says by identifying upgrades from Anzac Ave to Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd it can discuss “sensitive property matters” where impacts could not be avoided.
“The project team is prioritising support and meetings with property owners to discuss the proposed upgrades, understand individual circumstances and advise no properties are being resumed at this time,” a TMR spokesperson said.
“We will work closely with property owners to provide transparency and outline options available to them.”
Most resumptions will not be required for many years and future project stages are subject to funding.
The “preferred solution” from Anzac Ave to Uhlmann Rd sees new north and a southbound lanes in the existing median to make it four lanes in each direction.
Also multi-lane, one-way collector-distributor roads on both sides of the highway between Uhlmann Rd and Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd.
Collector-distributor roads are seen as the most “viable solution” on a stretch with three interchanges and service centre access close together.
The collector roads are designed will separate short trips from highway traffic and use local roads while reducing highway access points.
New north and south-bound lanes from Uhlmann Rd to Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd were ruled it out due to the number of existing interchanges and service centre accesses.
TMR says the benefits is these upgrades include better safety and network efficiency, less interchange queuing, improved flood immunity, less congestion and better active transport connectivity.
Local residents and motorists are now urged by TMR to have their say on the preferred solution by September 2025.
The Federal ($27.2m) and State ($6.8m) governments committed $34 million to develop the upgrade business cases.
