Racing towards huge new BMX centre

The tender for construction of a new national-standard BMX centre at Nolan Park, Brendale, is about to be awarded by Moreton Bay Regional Council.

The Queensland Government has contributed $1.5 million through the Works for Queensland program, to help bring this multi-million-dollar project up to national competition standards.

“While it’s Pine Rivers BMX Club which will receive a new base pad BMX pump track development, clubhouse, lighting, spectator seating and more – this will be a facility for the entire region to enjoy,” says Mayor Peter Flannery.

BMX destination

“The sport already has a strong foothold in our region, but this facility will set it up for decades to come and make Moreton Bay a BMX destination.

“It will have massive flow on effects for the local economy too, by creating the opportunity to host regional, state and national standard competitions.

“I’d like to thank the State Government for their contribution to get the wheels turning on this project and we look forward to continuing to work with them into the future.”

Exciting times

Pine Rivers BMX President Paul Drury adds that club is “excited about this project”.

“It will provide our club with the opportunity to develop riders from two years to over 60 at a facility that will be of a high class and a significant asset to the BMX community,” he says.

Once the tender is awarded, construction is expected to begin around December and is expected to be complete by around February 2022, weather permitting.
