Record turn-out of Lunar New Year Moreton Bay
The City of Moreton Bay’s Lunar New Year celebrations at Caboolture on the weekend were the biggest yet – fitting for the Year of the Dragon.
Beautiful weather, which followed torrential rain the previous day, gave residents and visitors another reason to head along to the event offering traditional music and dance, Asian food, workshops, stage entertainment and more.
The event, on Saturday February 17, concluded with a pyrotechnic firecracker display that lit up the night sky.
Red Dragon Martial Arts describe the busy Lunar New Year period as their ‘Super Bowl of the season’, and some of their young students performed as the dragon for the first time.
The family friendly event featured 50 individual stage performances by seven local cultural community groups.
Dignitaries included Mayor Peter Flannery, Councillor Adam Hain (Div 3), Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of Brisbane William Hou-Lu Fan, and Siti Constable and Ari Kaushik from Multicultural Association of Caboolture and Surrounds Inc.
