Redcliffe welcomes old-school record store

Redcliffe locals no longer need to travel to Brisbane City to find the perfect vinyl, with a new record store taking the community by surprise.

Hideous Records is an old-school record store, with a wide range of records, posters, band T-shirts and turntables.

Hideous Records owners Michael and Natasha Eaton say they want to bring back the sensory experience of buying and enjoying music.

“We love music and we’ve always had records as part of our collection. We noticed that the northside of Brisbane was lacking a decent record store to buy new vinyl,” Michael and Natasha say.

“We want to make our store a place where music lovers can come and browse through thousands of records and share stories about their favourite bands, the gigs they’ve been to and the most prized records in their collection.”

Hideous Records stocks just about every genre of music you can think of, from jazz, soul and reggae to heavy metal, urban and country.

“We’ve got ABBA to ZZ Top! We have all music genres including current favourites. We also have a dedicated area to promote local South East Queensland bands,” they say.

The long-time Moreton Bay locals say they couldn’t think of a better place than Redcliffe to open their first store.

“We have both lived in Moreton Bay for about 30 years and travel to the city to buy records and see live bands,” they say.

“Redcliffe is not only our home, but an ideal location to fill the gap in record stores between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.”

Since launching in August 2023, the store has been embraced by the Redcliffe community.

“The community’s support has been amazing! Locals are so excited to have a local record store, so they no longer have to travel to the city,” Michael and Natasha say.

“Some people have just popped their head in to offer encouragement by saying ‘it’s great to see a new store – all the best.’

“We love supporting local South East Queensland musicians by stocking their albums and helping them get their music known.

“We love that people come into the store and they light up with joy and excitement at the range of artists and the prospect of taking a bit of it home with them. We love that we create happiness!”

The future is already looking bright for Hideous Records, with plans for in-store performances and potential vinyl club nights for the community to enjoy.
