Residents aiming to make Change

Residents at a Caboolture retirement village have joined a new state-wide drive to “transform waste into impact”.

Bolton Clarke Fernhill, in King Street, had already collected 1139 bottles before this week’s launch of the Containers for Change initiative.

Recycling champions across Bolton Clarke’s 23 Queensland villages will receive dedicated recycling bins.

These will be emptied regularly by a Containers for Change operator, turning their bottles into cash for use in local projects chosen by the village community.

Jon Kirkman, Bolton Clarke Director of Operations for North Queensland, says the project will span from Townsville to the Gold Coast and out to Longreach.

“We’re thrilled to launch our Queensland-wide partnership with Containers for Change and engage our retirement villages to transform waste into impact,” Jon said.

“Drink containers are one of the most common forms of litter and by returning them through this project, our residents are not only diverting waste from landfill but they’re also raising funds for social impact projects that benefit their wider community.

“It’s inspiring to see our residents lead the way to prove that small actions can create powerful change.”
