Road works to start next week
Work is about to start on a year-long upgrade to a major arterial road which connects the Moreton Bay Region with three north Brisbane suburbs.
Hoyland Street, from Bracken Ridge Rd to Kluver St, just before the Gympie Arterial Rd/Gympie Rd intersection, is one lane in both directions.
When construction is complete in early 2022, the 900m single-lane stretch of Hoyland St will be two lanes in both directions, improving travel time.
Starting dates
According to Brisbane City Council’s website, minor works, including site set-up, are scheduled to start on Monday (January 11) with the main construction work beginning on January 18.
Motorists may face temporary changed traffic conditions and delays. Traffic controllers will be on site as needed. Pedestrians and cyclists will have to use diversions and detours at times.
The upgrade will also have traffic signals on the slip lanes of the Kluver/Hoyland St intersection to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
400 trees
Hoyland St is part of the east-west arterial linking Gympie Arterial Rd/Gateway Motorway and the Moreton Bay Region with Bald Hills, Bracken Ridge and Sandgate.
Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth said last year the upgrade would be funded by Brisbane City Council and the Australian Government.
As part of the work, 200 street trees will be removed, but Brisbane City Council will plant 400 new surrounding trees in the project area.
Diamond design
The upgrade will support a $30 million ‘diamond design’ traffic plan for the Gympie Arterial Rd/Strathpine Rd interchange, to be funded by the State and Federal governments.
It will be just the second time such a design has been used in Queensland – the first being at the new Caloundra Rd/Bruce Highway interchange.
