Roundabout makes way for lights at Narangba

A roundabout will be replaced by traffic lights as part of a major overhaul at a Narangba intersection.

Moreton Bay Regional Council approved the $4.5 million upgrade of the intersection of Young and Oakey Flat roads at last week’s council meeting.

Councillor Darren Grimwade (Div 11) said the changes, which include pedestrian crossings, would benefit the entire community.

“We have got some access issues, with now hundreds of homes being on the western side of Oakey Flat Rd and school kids crossing that road, with all schools being on the eastern side,” Cr Grimwade said.

When work will start

Bellwether Contractors has been awarded the tender to upgrade the intersection from a single lane roundabout to signalised multi-lane/dual carriageway with dedicated pedestrian crossings.

The project aims to improve safety and increase the capacity and operating efficiency of the intersection.

Construction is scheduled to start in September or October and take about seven months, including allowances for wet weather.

A report from council officers said most work would be done during the day, with consideration given to access for residents in Sovereign Dve.

There will be night works with single lane closures when new stormwater road crossings are being built.
