Saying thanks to aged care workers

The dedication and compassion of aged care workers will be in the spotlight on Sunday and the community is encouraged to say thanks for caring.

Arana-based Just Better Care Brisbane North managing director Susanne Jones wants people to take time to think of the community support professionals, nurses, cleaners, gardeners, allied health professionals and administration staff who have cared for a loved one ahead of Aged Care Employee Day on Sunday, August 7.

“We’re asking our community to take a moment and think about the quiet achievers and the superheroes who provide care with professionalism, compassion and dedication for our loved ones and give them the recognition they deserve,” Susanne says.

“It’s been a particularly challenging 18 months for aged care workers in home care services leaving many families and friends unable to visit loved ones for weeks on end due to lockdowns and inter-state travel restrictions.

Crucial connection

“It often fell to the community support professionals, nurses, and other suppliers to make up for that loss of family contact and become that crucial connection for frail and vulnerable older Australians.”

Aged Care Employee Day will feature a #ThanksforCaring social media campaign with videos, stories and photographs that acknowledge aged care workers.

The day acknowledges the more than 360,000 people who care for and support about 1.3 million older Australians who receive aged care services.
