Scam warning on ‘resale tickets’

Scammers are targeting people desperately trying to get hold of tickets to this year’s sold-out Abbey Medieval Festival, with organisers issuing a warning.

In a statement, the organisers are encouraging wannabe festivalgoers to only use third-party marketplace Tixel for buying and selling of ‘resale tickets’.

“Due to the overwhelming popularity of our sold-out event, we are experiencing an influx of scammers, through fake resales and via unauthorised ticketing sites,” the statement said.

“We ask patrons not to exchange funds through Facebook or any other platform. Due to capacity limits, fake tickets cannot be accepted upon entry, so please be vigilant when purchasing resale tickets.”

The organisers have also issued a warning for those buying ‘resale tickets’ for its Medieval Banquet.

“Tixel is a third party buy/sell exchange marketplace not affiliated with AMF (Abbey Medieval Festival). The AMF cannot accommodate dietary requests or changes to original ticket holder requests due to confirmed catering and seating. Tickets are non-refundable. It is the buyer’s responsibility to be aware of ticket rules and requirements.”

Organisers say, with the July 8 and 9 festival at capacity, there will be no gate ticket sales. Tixel is its only authorised ticket reseller.
