Scarborough dog beach survey closing soon
Time is running out to have your say on the future of the Queens Beach North Dog Off-Leash Area at Scarborough.
Community consultation will help determine whether the area remains open to dogs off-leash, with a Moreton Bay Regional Council survey closing on February 19.
Mayor Peter Flannery says the response has been overwhelming, but he wants to ensure all voices are heard.

“Nearly 1500 responses have been received so far and we haven’t even hit the February 19 cut-off date yet,” he says.
“So if you’re a resident, beach-goer, or dog lover please make sure you share the survey link with your friends and family so that they can have a say.”
Mayor Flannery says Council wants to hear from the full spectrum of beach users to understand how the proposal to keep the area off-leash impacts people, the amenity, and the environment.
“This will put an end to four years of uncertainty for residents and dog owners in the region so it’s important you have your say,” he says.
Decision in April
“Once the survey responses are analysed, a comprehensive report can come back to Council for a final decision in April.”
Until then, Mayor Flannery urges people to take responsibility for their dogs, whether off-leash or on.
“Regardless, please remember to always maintain effective control of your pets, which includes leashing your dog while walking from your car to the DOLA.
“There is also clearly marked signage that designates where the DOLA starts and ends, as well as other relevant information.”
