'Special' Law set to put title on line

Caboolture boxer Ethan Law is hoping it will be third time lucky in October.

The unbeaten middleweight has not fought since April with his last two bouts postponed due to the impacts of COVID.

Law had a New Zealand opponent lined-up in August before the travel bubble broke. Then NSW’s Adam Stowe in September, until the state border lockdown.

The latter, with Law defending his Australasian middleweight title, is now on October 23 as part of Tasman Fighters’ Gold Coast Fight Night II in Broadbeach.

Training camp

However, each rescheduling by just a few weeks, has extended the 20-year-old’s pre-fight training camp into a third month and it will be four when he faces Stowe.

“Ethan has been in camp for a long time,” said Law’s trainer Dwayne Tindall, from the not-for-profit Body Shot Boxing Club based at World Gym Burpengary.

“And it has been a hard camp. With just a few weeks between the rescheduled dates we just couldn’t stop training.

“But he’s young and a special kid - five fights, five wins, four knock outs. He’s been sparring hard and will be ready for this one.

'Doesn't back away'

“Ethan doesn’t get carried away. He fights who his promoter (Tasman Fighters) puts in front of him and doesn’t back away.”

Law, born, schooled and living in Caboolture, is from a boxing family - his cousin being Deception Bay Boxing Club’s Waylon Law, an ex-Australian super lightweight champion.

In fact, Ethan Law used the Deception Bay club while Body Shot was setting up its new base at World Gym Burpengary where he trains three times a day, when not working.

Law, nicknamed ‘The Stallion’, will typically do a 7/8km morning run and pad work in the gym. Rest and train again from midday. Rest again then return to the gym for afternoon sparring.

'Come in and fight'

“It is pretty full on,” said Law, whose sparring partners including Isaac Hardman, also from Caboolture, unbeaten in 10 fights and primed to take on the world.

“But it has to be. He (Stowe) is going to come in and fight. He’s not going to play around. I’ve heard this is the hardest he’s been training.

“This is like a world title for him facing me. We know it’s going to be a hard fight and he wants to take the belt off me.”

Law plans to keep active and get more fight experience until the day COVID restrictions allow international travel and open up more avenues for him.
