Sport sheltering from Cyclone Alfred

Sports clubs and organisations across Moreton Bay region are putting matches and training on hold ahead of Cyclone Alfred.
Here’s a snapshot of the sporting announcements made …. so far. Check with individual clubs and sports bodies for updates.
Football Queensland has suspended all football activity across South-East Queensland from 8am today (March 5) until further notice. The decision across the Metro, South Coast, Sunshine Coast and Darling Downs football regions has been made to prioritise the safety ahead of Cyclone Alfred. FQ says it will issue another update on football activity on Monday (March 10) based on weather impacts in coming days.
Queensland Rugby League (QRL) has rescheduled a number of fixtures due to Cyclone Alfred. Redcliffe Dolphins' Hostplus Cup match at Norths Devils remains at Bishop Park, on Sunday, kick-off 2.10pm, subject to final approval following the cyclone. But Redcliffe's Harvey Norman Under 17, Harvey Norman Under 19 and Cyril Connell Cup fixtures at Norths are now on Saturday.
Dolphins’ will now start their NRL season with a trip to South Sydney Rabbitohs’ CommBank Stadium on Friday, kick-off 7pm. The fixture was to have been played at Suncorp Stadium but has been reversed due to the possible impact of Cyclone Alfred.
Pine Rivers Netball Association has today also put all training and matches on hold as Cyclone Alfred approaches. PRNA says on Facebook: “For everyone’s safety, all activities at Pine Rivers Netball Courts — including schools, clubs, representative programs, and all court users — will be cancelled or postponed until further notice.”
Redcliffe Hockey Club has made the decision to close from today until Friday” as Cyclone Alfred draws near. “All training between these days are cancelled due to the cyclonic weather,” the club says on its Facebook page. “No one is to go to the fields Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. More updates will come regarding Saturday and onwards. Please stay safe.”
Pine Rivers BMX has taken advice from AusCycling and closed its Brendale track from today "due to the expected impact of Cyclone Alfred over the coming days". "The track will remain closed until it has been determined that the ground conditions are safe. This means no further training this week and no gates tomorrow night," the club has posted on Facebook. "We apologise for any inconvenience, however the safety of our members is paramount."
Moreton Bay City Council's swimming pools are also closing today due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Albany Creek Leisure Centre, Redcliffe War Memorial Pool, Burpengary Regional Aquatic Centre are posting: "Our venue will be closed to the public from midday March 5 to midnight March 9. At this stage, we plan to reopen as usual from Monday March 10.
Pine Rivers St Andrews Hockey Club has cancelled tonight’s grass training, due to the cyclone.
Caboolture Netball Association has cancelled the Grading Day and March Forward scheduled for Saturday (March 8). CNA says on Facebook: “There is strictly a ‘no go zone’ at CNA until the site is declared safe. At this stage, any return to netball will be communicated when available after the system (Cyclone Aldred) has passed. This will allow for any damage to be assessed.”
AFL Queensland has cancelled all community football practice matches across South-East Queensland this weekend. It says all premier schools competitions, CaSSSA, QGSSSA and AIC, have also been cancelled as Cyclone Alfred bears down on the region. “The health and safety of clubs, players, officials and – importantly - the wider southeastern Queensland and northern New South Wales communities remains the priority,” it says in a statement.
Caboolture Sports Cricket Club has posted: "Sunshine Coast Cricket Association, in line with all available information - has made the decision to cancel all upcoming men's fixtures for Saturday (March 8) and the women's and junior grand finals for Sunday (March 9) as a result of the pending arrival of Cyclone Alfred."
Caboolture BMX says club activities are cancelled until further notice. The club posted on Facebook yesterday: "With the impending threat of Cyclone Alfred, we are putting our emergency action plan into place and as a result, the track facility will not be functional. We are hoping the weather gods are nice to us, and don’t cause flooding at the facility yet again."
Pine Rivers Bears rugby league club trained last night, though no-one was obliged to if preparing for Cyclone Alfred. “Any further updates regarding training and cancellations will be corresponded through this main (Facebook) page,” the club says.
Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association (BNJCA) has called off all games scheduled for March 8-9. “All BNJCA fixtures for this coming weekend have been cancelled. Please prepare for the cyclone and stay safe,” it says on Facebook.
Caboolture Golf Club yesterday told members the course and clubhouse may have to close ahead of Cyclone Alfred. The club says on Facebook “things can change very quickly and the course and clubhouse may have to close at any time to ensure the safety of our staff, members and guests. We encourage everyone to stay safe and we will keep you informed in these uncertain times.”
Wantima Country Club at Brendale says, on its website, the course and club house will be closing today (March 5). “The course will be closed from 1pm Wednesday March 5 and club house will be closed from 4pm Wednesday March 5. Please refer to the Wantima Country Club website for updates on when the club house and course will reopen.”
Redcliffe Little Athletics has cancelled Friday’s competition due to Cyclone Alfred. “We hope everyone is able to prepare their homes and please stay safe during the wild weather and days following,” the club says on Facebook. “Next Friday’s competition will be assessed early next week for the likelihood of the grounds recovering by then.”
Bribie Island Little Athletics will not be meeting on Friday due to the impending cyclone. “The safety of our athletes, families, and community comes first. Please take care, stay informed, and look out for one another in the coming days,” it says on Facebook.
Brisbane Roar Women’s match against Melbourne City, scheduled for Perry Park on Sunday, has been postponed due to the severe weather situation. The match will be rescheduled.
