The big wet: Road closures across Moreton Bay Region
Updated 5.05pm
There are 50 local roads closed across the Moreton Bay Region due to flooding as the Bureau of Meteorology warns of more heavy rain to come.
A Flood Watch warning remains in place due to a surface trough near the southeast coast which is forecast to remain slow-moving today and tomorrow, producing areas of heavy to intense rainfall and thunderstorms over South East Queensland.
A second slow-moving trough further inland will bring widespread shower and thunderstorm activity across the southern inland over the next few days.
Six-hourly rainfall totals between 80 and 120mm are likely, reaching up to 180 mm over areas east of Gympie to Jimboomba. The heaviest falls are expected through the latter parts of Thursday into Friday morning.
Catchments are wet, and likely to respond quickly to further rainfall. Those likely to be affected include the Pine and Caboolture Rivers.
Boaties are being urged to rethink planned outings.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey says: "Boaties can expect poor visibility, stronger stream flows and currents and possible flash flooding with the associated dangers of floating or submerged debris".
“Conditions this week and through the early part of the weekend make it dangerous for anyone thinking of going boating. I urge skippers to rethink any plans to take their boats out."
