Tom powers to top of rankings
Thomas Voigt returned from the Australian Age Championships as the nation’s fastest swimmer in two categories.
The Southern Cross Catholic College student is now the nation’s fastest S14 50m breaststroke swimmer.
He finished fourth in the 14-15 Years multiclass event but with only S8 and S15 swimmers ahead of him.
Voigt, who trains at Australian Crawl in Bracken Ridge, is also the fastest S14 competitor in the 100m breaststroke when fifth in the final on the Gold Coast.
They were two of seven events for the 15-year-old, who won the S14 50m freestyle B final which lifted him to ninth overall.
Personal bests
Two of his five personal best times came in the heat and final of that event and the 100m breaststroke heat and final, as well as the 100m freestyle finishing 16th.
The Redcliffe resident was also seventh in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke as well as 10th in the 100m backstroke.
All that despite having back-to-back heats and finals, only 10 minutes apart, which saw him finish one race and go straight to marshalling for the next event.
Last year Voigt won gold, silver and bronze medals at his first Queensland titles and repeated the feat for Special Olympics Moreton North at the state games.
