Tuning-up for special choir workshop
Caboolture Community Choir has limited places available for guests at a special singing workshop for “lovers of song”.
The workshop, on Sunday July 12, will be led by Brisbane-based choral conductor, composer, pianist and tubist Chris Brindley.
He has worked with community/church choirs, brass bands and orchestras, led conferences, workshops, camps in Australia, the US and UK and was Choir Director for Brisbane City Temple Songsters of the Salvation Army 2006-2019.
The workshop will start a 10-week skill-building project which will help choir members and guests develop their singing and ability to harmonise with the choir.
While the workshop and project will be included in fees for choir members, some places are available for non-members at a nominal cost.
“When I reached out to Chris, I was excited to work with such a talented musical director,” Caboolture Community Choir President Catherine Croft said.
“The opportunity to share this with the choir and open it up to the wider community is wonderful and I'm looking forward to learning new skills and new songs”.
Balancing familiarity and enjoyment with an achievable challenge, Chris has selected eight to 10 pieces to suit the choir’s values, aged care and community audiences.
Guests can attend the workshop and/or the 10-week project which culminates on September 26 with a free community concert, designed to lead-in to Mental Health Week in October.
Last year, celebrating its 30th anniversary, the choir’s free public concert was performed to a capacity audience and followed by a free afternoon tea.
Anyone wishing to join the choir, can attend the weekly rehearsals at St Laurence’s Anglican Church Hall, King St, Caboolture on Wednesdays from 6.45-9pm.
Caboolture Community Choir started in 1995, is a not-for-profit group open to anyone aged 18 and over.
It is an unauditioned adult SATB choir, available for public events and, for a nominal fee, private functions. Prior experience and/or ability to read music is an advantage, but not a requirement.
